The house, level by level

Plain outside, rich within

Loos set each room at the height its use deserved, and joined them with a few steps around a central stair. The tour climbs through them in turn.

  1. The entrance niche of Villa Müller: a wooden bench and door set into the white wall below street level

    Street

    The door in the niche

You enter through a shallow niche cut below the level of the street. Look at the door knob: black on the outside, white on the inside. Down here, the new route now takes in the service and technical rooms.

  2. The living hall of Villa Müller with its green Cipollino marble wall, fireplace and rugs, the dining room opening above

    Hall

The living hall in Cipollino marble

The heart of the house is a tall room walled in green Cipollino marble, with the staircase rising beside it. Every other room in the villa is measured against this one.

  3. The dining room of Villa Müller with a round mahogany table and a coffered wooden ceiling

    Half up

    Dining room and boudoir

A few steps above the hall, the dining room sits under a coffered wooden ceiling. Higher again is the ladies' boudoir, a small raised room that looks out over the space below. After 1959 it became part of Milada Müllerová's two-room flat.

  4. The study in Villa Müller, panelled in dark wood with a desk under the window

    Study

    Library and study

Mahogany, lemonwood veneer and built-in shelving turn the working rooms into panelled boxes. The library was the second of the two rooms Milada kept when the state took the house.

  5. The children's room in Villa Müller with a red floor, blue walls and a yellow wardrobe

    Private

Bedrooms, and rooms never shown before

Upstairs are the bedrooms, where the original paper wallpaper has been restored, and the children's room in bright painted colour. Since October 2026 the tour also opens the parlour, the guest room and the maids' quarters.

  6. The roof terrace of Villa Müller: a large opening in the terrace wall frames trees and the city skyline

Repaired in the latest works and open again in good weather. A single opening in the terrace wall frames the view across the rooftops of Prague.

Questions

Asked before booking

Last checked:

What does the Villa Müller ticket include?

A guided tour of the whole house, about 75 minutes, from the service rooms in the basement to the roof terrace. You go in a group of eight at most, and the route now includes the parlour, guest room and maids' quarters, shown to visitors for the first time in 2026.

Which tours are in English?

The 10:30 and 15:00 tours, every opening day. The other four start times, 9:00, 12:00, 13:30 and 16:30, are guided in Czech. Choose 10:30 or 15:00 at checkout if you want the English tour.

Can I visit Villa Müller without a guided tour?

No. The villa can only be visited on a guided tour with a valid ticket. Even visitors who go free, such as children under 15, need a ticket for a specific tour.

How many people are on each tour?

Eight at most, children included. The museum keeps the groups this small so you can move comfortably through the rooms and so the historic interior is protected.

When is Villa Müller open?

Wednesday to Sunday, 9:00 to 18:00, with tours starting from 9:00 until 16:30. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. No tours are listed on 29 November or from 2 to 6 December 2026.

How far ahead can I book?

The museum releases tours in batches. At the moment tours are on sale up to 20 December 2026. If your date is later, or your tour is sold out, leave it with us with no payment and we look for a place when tours open or places come back.

Do children need a ticket?

Children under 15 go free with an adult, but each still needs a ticket and takes one of the eight places. Tell us their ages at checkout and we add their free tickets at no charge. From 15, young visitors take the student fare.

Who can book the student fare?

Students with a valid student card, and children aged 15 and over. Bring the card, or ID that shows the young visitor's age, on the day.

Who can book the senior fare?

Visitors aged 65 and over. Bring photo ID that shows your age. Seniors and students have separate fares because the museum issues them as different tickets.

Where does the tour start?

At the gate of the villa on Nad Hradním vodojemem, Prague 6 – Střešovice, at the time on your ticket. The tour begins on time, so aim to arrive a few minutes early.

Can I take photographs inside?

Yes. Photography is welcome everywhere on the tour, without flash and without a tripod.

What should I wear?

Comfortable flat shoes. The floors are original wood, and visitors in very high heels are asked to change their footwear. You go up and down many short flights of steps, so shoes you can climb in are best.

Can I bring a bag?

Leave hand luggage in the cloakroom before the tour. Bring only what you need in your pockets, such as your phone for photographs.

Is Villa Müller wheelchair accessible?

No. The rooms sit at different levels joined by steps, which is the whole idea of the house, and there is no step-free route. Visitor toilets are also limited.

What is new since the 2026 reopening?

The roof terrace was repaired and is open again in good weather. The parlour, the guest room and the servants' quarters, with the maid's room and bathroom, are shown for the first time, and the original paper wallpaper in the bedroom has been restored.

How do I get to Villa Müller?

The villa is in Střešovice, Prague 6, on the hill west of Prague Castle. Trams on the Střešovice line stop at Ořechovka, a short walk from the gate. Check the current line numbers in a journey planner before you set off.

Who are you, and how does booking with you work?

We are an independent booking service, not the villa or the Museum of Prague. You choose a fare and a tour, pay us once in your currency, and we reserve your place on the museum's official system and email you the e-ticket.

Who designed Villa Müller?

Adolf Loos, together with the Pilsen architect Karel Lhota. František Müller first approached Lhota, who knew Loos's ideas, and in October 1928 he signed an agreement with both architects.

Does the museum offer other kinds of tours?

Yes. Besides the standard tours in Czech and English, the museum runs tours for parents with children and curator-led tours on themes such as Karel Lhota's role, the Raumplan and fashion in Loos's work. We book the standard guided tour.

Was Villa Müller built at the same time as Villa Tugendhat?

Yes. Villa Müller in Prague (1928–1930) and Mies van der Rohe's Villa Tugendhat in Brno were built in the same years, 1928 to 1930.

Can I see the garden?

In good weather the tour includes the exterior of the villa and its garden. The garden was laid out with the house by Camillo Schneider, Karl Förster and Hermann Mattern.
